The Story Behind “Chosen Generation”
The concept: what if a group of Christian musicians joined a 1960s outdoor music festival—not just to perform, but to share the Gospel? Byrds-style jangle meets Buddy Holly-inspired vocals in a song inspired by 1 Peter 2:9 — a reminder that we are a chosen people, called to shine His light.
Written by Terry Parks over 50 years ago and originally performed in Christian circles with his wife Karen, this song has now been reimagined by his son Dan Parks into a 60s-inspired retro rock version for today’s listeners.
Lyrics
Signs of the times point to his coming
Never has a day been so exciting
While shades of night appear
Opportunities shine clear
For we are a chosen generation
A chosen generation
Bringing Christ to every nation
Time is short and there's so much to do
Across the street, across the hall
Across the oceans too
A chosen generation, me and you
Chosen vessels fit for the master
Sharing Christ with those who face disaster
In his love we're unashamed
We'll succeed in Jesus' name
For we are a chosen generation
A chosen generation
Bringing Christ to every nation
Time is short and there's so much to do
Across the street, across the hall
Across the oceans too
A chosen generation, me and you
God has given us His Holy Spirit
To make the message plain to those who hear it
We never are alone
We couldn't do it on our own
For we are a chosen generation
A chosen generation
Bringing Christ to every nation
Time is short and there's so much to do
Across the street, across the hall
Across the oceans too
A chosen generation, me and you
A chosen generation, me and you
