This piece picked me up at times when I was feeling down, when I’d play it in the piano practice hall in college. I was not a music student, but I was given permission to play in the practice rooms (and sometimes I’d also sit down and use the piano). But that’s where I wrote some of my best work, in my estimation.
I don’t know if this qualifies, but it’s one of my favorites, and it’s just meant to be fun. For some reason, early on I had this idea of one of the music professors there playing a cheesy piano tune and saying with a grin, “C’mon, you know the words!” As I developed it, that became the theme — and the irony is that this piece has no words. I hope you just enjoy it. —Dan Parks
